Capspore Demo v0.1 Released


Greetings! I'm Clamshell64 and I'm working on a game called Capspore. It's an exploration platformer inspired by games like Cave Story and Classic Kirby (Kirby Super Star, namely). The whole idea is that you're a mushroom that can collect different hats and use their abilities (hence Capspore).

So far there is the chef hat (which looks like a normal mushroom for now. you can cook and season enemies!), and the top hat (swing a cane around and attack enemies). I'm planning on having five hats in total. 

This will be my first real full game! I'm planning on releasing it sometime in August. This game is a part of the 90 Days and Ship it! Jam, hosted by Game Endeavor. I started around a week early (the jam does allow existing projects), and that's why I have the demo available already. I'm posting updates pretty much every day I work on the project on Game Endeavor's discord community, so if you want to see lots of updates on the game, go there!

Nice prototype! The combat works well and I like the top hat animations. Although I didn’t quite get how the chef hat works (sometimes it produced something and sometimes it didn’t).

When the chef hat didn't produce something, were you right next to the obnoxious smoke/dust particles? You may have gotten the food without knowing it (because there's no sfx for it yet). On the other hand, it could be a real bug. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Ok, I tried it again and figured out that I have to move while using the chef hat, then it produces something. Makes combat a lot easier :)
